Sigvard Eklund´s Price

The 2024 year winners were announced at the SKC and ANItA joint Symposium in October. Information about nominations for the prize 2025 will be published later.

Sigvard Eklund’s price has been established by SKC to recognise and reward outstanding academic work by bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral students at Swedish universities. Once a year, supervisors and teachers can nominate one or more theses to be considered as the best of its academic level of the year. An independent jury considers the motivation for nomination, the scientific merit and the overall quality of all submitted theses in deciding whom to award.

In addition to the recognition for outstanding research, the 2024 prize entail monetary rewards SEK 75 000 for the best doctoral thesis, SEK 40 000 for the best master's thesis or SEK 30 000 for the best bachelor’s thesis.

The prize was established in Sigvard Eklund’s name to honor his contribution to the Swedish nuclear power development. During the period of 1961 to 1981, Dr. Sigvard Eklund was Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency. Prior to that, he played a key role in establishing the Swedish nuclear power industry through his numerous roles and assignments. However, the foundation for his lifelong contributions to the research, development and application of nuclear technology originates from both Uppsala University and KTH Royal Institute of Technology where he obtained his academic degrees and where he became a docent, respectively.
